The Malaysian Peacekeeping Centre (MPC) recently hosted the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Course Serial 2/2025 in collaboration with Kingston Leadership Team Incorporated (KLT Inc.), Canada. This course, held from 13th to 17th January 2025. This second collaboration strengthening partnerships with expert agencies dedicated to integrating gender considerations into peace efforts, both within Malaysia and globally. A total of 30 participants attended, including 14 from the Malaysian Army, 6 from the Royal Malaysian Navy, 7 from the Royal Malaysian Air Force and 3 from the Royal Malaysian Police. The course also featured 3 Subject Matter Experts from KLT Inc. lead by Dr Alan Okros, Director of KLT Inc.
The course focused on introducing the WPS agenda, particularly the UN Security Council Resolutions UNSCR 1325 and UNSCR 2242. It aimed to demonstrates how principles of WPS such as gender equality. It also influences institutional and operational functions of armed forces, optimizing force generation, policy, planning and operations. Participants learned about international frameworks and methods to promote women’s empowerment and gained insights into the challenges women face in peace processes. The training also provided tools for participants to advocate for women’s rights and their involvement in peace and security efforts.
The course concluded on 17th January 2025 with a closing ceremony led by Brig Gen Dato’ Abdul Halim bin Abu Hassan RMAF, Director General of the Defence Training Department. Other attendees included Col Mohd Rizman bin Haji Ramli, Commandant of the Malaysian Peacekeeping Centre; Lt Col Derek Mattinen, The Canadian Defence Advisor in Malaysia; Miss Alina Kwan, First Secretary (Political) High Commission of Canada in Malaysia and DSP Mohd Fazilah bin Mohamad Nor, Representative from the Royal Malaysian Police.
